Mussel Pool Station

Track laying of the line out of Mussel Pool began on 18 January 1984. By the 18th of November track had been constructed to within meters of the Central Station (Whiteman Village Junction) platforms. Construction of a low road base landing at Mussel Pool was commenced on the 29th of November 1984 . This landing was the first platform to be used at Mussel Pool and was opened on the 8th of December 1984 when the Bennett Brook Railway was officially opened. By 1987 the run-around loop and long head shunt were in use. The Collie Signal / Staff Cabin arrived on the 21st of April 1987, initially being used as the ticket office. WALRPA's biggest acquisition for 1987 was the WAGR Station Building at Nungarin. 40kms north of Merredin and some 280km's from Perth. The building was left in situ at Nungarin until 1989. On the 1st of October 1988,WALRPA took delivery of the Pingelly bus shelter which was re-erected on the platform at Mussel Pool. It was later relocated to Kangaroo Flats siding in 1990.
On the 6th of November 1988, the "Linen Room" (previously the "Passenger Yard Foreman's Office" ) from the west end of platforms 5 & 6 at Perth City station, Arrived at Mussel Pool and was re-erected opposite the Collie cabin. It had been a signal cabin in a former life and is destined to be the new Mussel Pool signal cabin in the future.
On 27th February 1989 the Nungarin Station Building was moved By WALRPA Members with assistance from the Army's 22nd Construction Squadron to its current site at Mussel Pool Station where restoration began and continued through 1990. The Nungarin Station building opened for use at Mussel Pool on the 3rd March 1991. |
